Fowler assured dad he is on the right treatment for lymphoma in the duodenum. This is where dad’s cancer was discovered and some people have asked where that is and what the heck is the duodenum?! Is it a new style of designer jeans?

The duodenum is the first section of the small intestine. It is largely responsible for the breakdown of food in the small intestine, using enzymes. It also regulates the rate of emptying of the stomach via hormonal pathways. The Greeks called it the dodeka-daktulon, or 12 fingers, because it is about 12 finger breaths long.

After lunch, it was off to the chemo unit. They were running about 2 hours late, so we sat and waiting. While waiting, they learned they could get a free hat (no, not as a consolation for waiting) to keep dad’s head warm. They forgot to bring the hat that I got him, so were able to get a replacement from the hospital. Finally, chemo started around 2pm and completed around 8:30pm. Good thing they got the free hat because dad was chilly during the chemo (mom was having a better time than dad apparently!)

During the long chemo session, Nina nagged, ummmm, I mean "reminded" dad to keep drinking water.....

Ahhhhh, that's better. Water is so quenching!

Thumbs up if you are almost done.....

After they were all done, they had to call campus police to take them back to the hotel because the shuttle stopped running! It was sooooo late.
